Is buying a no-KYC phone number legal?

Renting and using a virtual phone number is legal in the great majority of jurisdictions. HushSMS resells numbers leased from licensed carriers, which is ordinary telecoms resale. What you do with a number is governed by the law where you are and by our acceptable use policy, which prohibits fraud, impersonation, harassment and spam. If you live in a country that mandates SIM registration, that obligation is yours to know.

The longer version

The confusion comes from conflating two different regimes. KYC obligations attach to the issuance of SIM cards and to regulated financial services, not to the resale of numbering capacity, which is why this category exists at all rather than operating in some grey zone people imagine. Wanting a phone number that is not attached to your legal identity is also not evidence of anything: the ordinary customers here are people keeping a personal number off marketplace listings, freelancers separating clients from evenings, and travellers who need a local line without a passport at a shop counter. Where the law does bind is on conduct, and conduct is the part the acceptable use policy covers.
